Tree Concept Art

For this project I took a look into existing tree concept designs to see how I can show character in an inanimate object. I like the idea of 'the Whomping Willow' from the Harry Potter series.

I started of sketching some random tree shapes in hopes of achieving some kind of inspiration, then I did a couple of close up studies just cause.

I decided to base my concept art on a cherry blossom tree, (don't ask me why -_-) so I designed a couple of compositions to capture a warm, relaxed feeling.

Final Piece:
A very good outcome; Lens glare seems out of place however.

Surreal Concept Art

To be honest my mind went blank when given this topic, but I can honestly say that look at the work of other surreal artists has giving me an idea of what I want to produce, but will probably need to get into the mentality of 'thinking outside the box'.

Composition idea: My idea involves an ice cream cone, and Mt Everest.

Some sketches I did to get a feel for the concept I'm going for.

Robot Concept Art

I started off looking up existing robot designs from popular movies and video games, and then took a look at a couple of concept arts.

It looks like I have a few choices to make about the kind of robot concept I am going to pursue; will it look human-like, or lean more towards an animal or non-existent creature; will it be a weapon or will it be a modern tool?

I actually couldn't come up with a solid idea for the robot design, so I decided to design a few designs for each body part, and then progressively use the parts I like and combine them into one final robot.

 Leg Designs

Torso Designs

 Arm Design

Head Design (Rushed)

Final Piece:
I like the overall design of the robot, however I think a stronger pose would have suited it better, and probably a decent background.

Tentacle Concept Art

This week’s brief is to design and produce a finished concept piece of an imagined creature with tentacles. The first stage of this is to produce a moodboard based around our desired theme.
I looked at many themes and genres based around tentacles; from the mechanical designs of the Matrix Sentinel, to the comic book stylings of Shuma Gorath. However I am liking the idea of merging tentacles with humans; an example of this is Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm going to look into the idea of a tentacle mutant design.

To start off my idea stage, I wanted to produce some studies on tentacles to get a grasp on how they work, texture, anatomy, etc. These are what I came out with:

After receiving experience on tentacle structure, I designed this character and pose for my tentacle mutant to be presented in.

I then changed things up a bit and came up with my final composition. (However still might make slight changes during production of the final piece)

Final Piece:
I really like how this piece turned out, i think i could have improved lighting however.
